Pillar 3 of 6

Balance

The pillar most people skip, and the one that keeps you training injury-free.

The pillar programs skip

Balance training is the pillar most programs skip, usually because it doesn't look like "real" exercise. But it plays a direct role in injury prevention, coordination, and staying capable as you age.

Train your body's GPS

Balance work trains proprioception, your body's sense of where it is in space, which underlies almost every athletic movement and a lot of everyday ones too. Single-leg exercises (single-leg deadlifts, step-ups, lunges) are a simple entry point because they force each side of the body to stabilize independently. Unstable surface training adds another layer once the basics feel solid.

Minutes, not hours

A few minutes woven into a warmup or cooldown is often enough to see the benefit.

Single-leg first

Single-leg deadlifts, step-ups, and lunges force each side to stabilize on its own.

Ankle and knee insurance

Especially worth it for anyone who's dealt with instability in the past.
